Born in Aden, Yemen before moving to Bangor, Northern Ireland, Eddie Izzard attended Sheffield University where he was kicked off his accountancy degree course, a turn of events that led to him busking the streets of Europe with his fledgling act. Known for his rambling, whimsical style that is heavily influenced by Monty Python (indeed John Cleese remarked that he was the ‘lost python’,) Eddie Izzard has grown to become one the UK’s best loved comics, winning the British Comedy Award for his Live at the Ambassadors show in 1993. He has described his often flamboyant stage appearance by saying that, ‘Women wear what they want and so do I’ and that he is ‘a lesbian trapped in a man’s body.’ Not limited to the stand up stage Eddie Izzard has appear in several films in both comedy and straight roles, notably Velvet Goldmine, Ocean’s 12 and Valkyrie as well as numerous stage and television appearances.
